Industry giants including BASF and AkzoNobel collaborate to build a low-carbon powder coating value chain, driving green transformation in the construction sector

Recently, BASF, Akzonobel, and Arkema, three major chemical giants, jointly released industry case studies, announcing their partnership to create a low-carbon powder coating value chain, focusing on applications in the construction industry and promoting sustainable development. It is reported that the construction industry, as the largest terminal market in the coatings industry, holds about 60% of the market share, but its related carbon emissions account for 37% of global energy related carbon emissions, making green transformation urgent.

The collaboration among the three giants will adopt a lifecycle management approach to develop more sustainable powder coatings for construction, with the goal of establishing a new market standard for low-carbon product portfolios. Powder coatings themselves have environmental advantages such as zero VOCs emissions, no hazardous waste generation, and the recyclability of overspray powder. This cooperation will further optimize the production process, reduce carbon emissions throughout the entire life cycle of powder coatings, and enhance the durability and functionality of coatings, meeting the dual needs of the construction industry for long-term protection and aesthetic decoration.

It is reported that all parties involved in the cooperation will share technical experience, optimize raw material selection, production processes, and recycling systems, and promote systematic changes in the value chain of powder coating. At the same time, the three parties will publicly disclose the progress of their cooperation, providing reference for other enterprises in the industry and driving the entire powder coating industry to transform towards low-carbon and sustainable practices.
